Just wanted to add a little personal experience on the topic. I ran a WebStar Server off a Powerbook 1400 (400 G3 upgrade, 40MB RAM, original 750MB HD, MacSense PCMCIA Ethernet Card, OS 9.1) for over a year. Of course the little beast was restarted many many times, but for the most part ran 24/7. I had no issues with the HD (although I think it needs to be replaced now) and with Heat while using it as a server.

I did run into one problem that I was able to fix for $12.50. I was not able to ever turn the display off while serving, or at least not able to figure out how. Needless to say, the backlight finally went out. Luckily, using Timbuktu I was still able to use everything just fine until I ordered a replacement light. After replacing the light for a measly $12.50, the little beast went back into full swing.

I was not running any executables at all, just using WebStar to serve basic web pages and email. it worked great for what I wanted. I do have one word of advice. Turn everything off that may cause lag on these older machines. Turn off the default indexing under OS 9, and don't run a screen saver for example. My 1400 just didn't have enough juice to run my Matrix screen saver and serve pages.

Hope this helps.
