I've copied the System Folder. But I recall some magic re: getting it Blessed. Missing Manual talks only about how the active system folder is the only one blessed.

Q1: I'd like to be able to select a spare boot folder in case I FUBAR the one. But how do I do that? (In OS9 I think there is a way to choose at boot..)

You have to bless the System Folder you want to boot from. To do this move the Finder file out on to the desktop and then put it back in it's System Folder. If that doesn't bless the folder then in the other folder, the one you DON'T want to boot from create a folder and call it something like "Finder in here" and move the Finder file into it. Putting "Finder" at the beginning of the folder name makes it sort next to the Finder file. After this now try blessing the System Folder you want to boot from.

OK, I'm not winning at this...

I got some off-list advice list..but even so.

I hooked up an external SCSI hard disk, ID 5. First I copied the Previous System Folder to the SCSI drive. That was a PITA -- the System Folder is 60MB but the finder balked until I had ~200MB free on the drive. Swap space needed?

So now it's on the drive. I then tried to Bless the SCSI System Folder:

a) I moved its finder to the Desktop, and it looked fancy...and moved it back.

b) Then I moved the existing internal Finder to "System Folder: Find-it-here:". I then tried again to Bless the SCSI Folder. No change. I put the internal Finder back.

I set Startup Drive to the SCSI, [It even shows partitions with NO system folder..] but while it now tries to boot from it [I see a brief "Floppy ?"], it then falls back to booting from the internal.

What do I check next?
