I bought a 520c off of eBay several months back, and it's provided me with a fun hobby. I can answer a few questions:
1. As far as I can tell you don't need to have any batteries for the 'book to work, as long as it's plugged into a wall outlet.
2. I was fortunate enough to get batteries included in my powerbook. But I did need an AC adapter, which I purchased off eBay at a reasonable price, as I recall.
