Reboot with extensions off.
How do I turn extensions off?
I'm sorry if my questions are too basic for this list. Let me know if I am too much of a newbie and I will stop posting things like this.

Don't be at all afraid to ask questions here. A lot of us started at square one with Mac OS.
As soon as you hear the startup " bong " hold down the shift key. When the startup screen comes on it will say
" extensions off ' near the " gas gauge " indicator.
