Oddly enough, I have everything described above (the 5300c being a sort of "rebodied" 5300c; a Freestyle Tablet PC) on a 802.11b network at my abode... >Call me enthusiastic - please. >The Upgraded Powerbook 540C runs OS8.0 with no problems. My 540c and my "5300c" Freestyle both use a Proxim Skyline wireless PCMCIA card. The software will install on anything 7.5.5 and up, so it is no problem... >The 5300C runs O.S.9 and works using ether a Farallon or an Enterasys card. >So both transmit AOK. > Yup.. should work just fine.... I fixed a friend's Lombard recently, and she has an Enterasys card; it saw my network just fine also... >I have Graphite Airport base station but I cannot get into to it to reset >its controls. Did you start off by putting the paper clip in the reset button on the device itself? You probably did; just checking... >I have been told that you need an ethernet cable (not radio) >connection to set the AirPort base station up. Hmmmm.. you may be right... I do not remember how I setup my Graphite Base Station. I must have used a Powerbook, because as you stated, my 7600 cannot use Airport. I cannot remember if I manually connected the airport base station (via a wired router) to a Powerbook's Ethernet port to set it up, but I think I must have. I have a 2400c and a Wallstreet that have Airport on them... >As an additional point, The Airport set-up downloaded from Apple ( Version >1.3.1 will not actually load on to any of the above machines although it >says it works with OS9.0.4 it gives error messages when loading which vary >from "Error of type 2 ocurred" on the Apple SW installer to "This programme >cannot run on your computer" Yeah, Airport can only be used with a machine that was designed to use it, or so I hear. What did you find to use in the 7600 to give it wireless access? I tried ethernet and USB bridges before stumbling on a PCI card that accepted a wireless PC card that would work with a Mac. Might the Airport Base Station serve your purposes with its "preset" configuration? If I remember, once you reset it, it starts off on Ch.11. (It may start off in Ad-Hoc or something though, so never mind...) My only solution would be to borrow someone's Airport/enabled machine to set everything up.
