Greetings, listers.

I have a PB1400c. It was working fine, when a low battery warning
message appeared. At this point, it was plugged in, and running on
AC. A few minutes later, the unit just shut down. I have tried
restarting, even while using the reset button on the back. When I
press that, I hear an attempt to restart, but aside from flashing a
time or two, the screen remains dark.

The battery is good only for about half an hour. The configuration
of the 'book is: PB 1400c/G3 250/64 Meg RAM/OS 8.6.

Any suggestions you can make would be appreciated. This is my
daughter's computer, and she'd really like it back.

Thanks.

Chris,

Maybe the thing was actually running on battery when the warning popped up. Perhaps your powerbrick isn't functioning or not securely plugged into the machine (or, if it's a yo-yo style, the power cord isn't firmly plugged into the yo-yo. I've heard that sometimes even the wires from the yo-yo separate and become useless.) And now maybe you're attempting to start it up on a dead battery - thinking you've got power from the wall.

These powerbricks do fail, and unless you had a fresh battery on hand it would be impossible to start up the machine - or to really know what the problem is. Do you have a multi-tester or voltmeter? You could test the leads on the end terminal of the DC supply coming from your powerbrick and see if you've got juice...

Good luck.
