I have contacted a local Apple retailer, and I'll be going in tomorrow to test out the power brick theory. It should take all of 20 seconds! If it needs re-soldering, I'll see how much it is, then decide what to do. It won't be junked, I know that there are too many PB1400 afficianados out there to let that happen!
