This may sound stupid, but worth a try: check the power block. I find that the cable that plugs into the PB1400 AC adapter (power unit) tends to get loose, and that is enough to stop power going through it. It sounds to me like either your cable has become loose, and thus the machine is not actually getting any power (and thus your battery is drained and it cannot start up), or alternatively, some element may have died (again, power unit sounds like the main culprit). I have a dead PB1400 power unit. It gets hot, and acts like it works, but it doesn't supply any power to the laptop. Luckily I have another.
