Have you turned off memory check? To turn off the memory check (hold down Option when opening the Memory control panel to get to the hidden checkbox to turn it off)
As for the other computers(servers in network speak) do a Sherlock search for the network names of these machines. You may be surprised to find a growing folder of them. And your machine may be looking for each one on startup. Fragmentation: Yes, that's clear. But how do you like my more brutal method--copying all files (including the System folder...) to another harddisk and putting them back after a format? At least it avoids problems with defragmentation programs that don't support certain file systems... Anyone knows of a good free defragmentation program? Also for 68K computers, as asked before.
