Hey Listers,

I am still loving my 5300c (OS 8.5) in that it works beautifully.
However, there is this one thing I'd like to refine.

When I originally bought my 5300c, I had to transfer the applications and
data I needed for it from my G3, which was fine since the laptop is
supposed to be my "desktop away from home" and "the computer I use when
the G3 is tied up with something else." One of my primary use
applications is AppleWorks, so I included that in the transfer. However,
I found that AW6 (that's what I use on the G3) wouldn't run on the 5300c.
So, I installed AW5, which definitely does the job, but here's where the
"refinement" thing comes in: I'd like to NOT have to "Save As AppleWorks
5" on files I move over from the G3 to the 5300c anymore. I just learned
that the reason for AW6 not running on my 5300c is too low a version of
Quicktime.

Question 1: Why in the heck would a WORD PROCESSING application require
a MOVIE/VIDEO application to operate?

Moving right along.....I'm also actually considering the idea of
upgrading my 5300c from 8.5 to 8.6 after all. Which brings me to:

Question 2: Does anyone know if 8.6 comes with Quicktime 4.1.2? (that's
the minimum requirement for AW6)

Question 3: Since OS 8.5 came installed on my 5300c and I don't have a CD
or floppies of it, can anyone tell me if merely copying the 8.5 system
folder elsewhere (to my G3 for instance) will actually suffice as a
backup of the OS in case anything goes wrong in the upgrade? I ask
because I know from G3 experience that this does NOT suffice for OS 9.1.

Right now I have the 8.6 upgrade already waiting on my hard drive, and as
I write this, a free Quicktime 4.1.2 installer is downloading. All I
want to do is get AW 6 up and running on the 5300c. Do you think I'm
better off upgrading it to 8.6 or just installing Quicktime 4.1.2 on it?

Thanks in advance for your help and advice,

~Yersinia.
