<Go to 8.6 and QuickTime 4 or 5.>

Okay, I'm just about ready to rock and roll with this now. Also, thanks
for answering my question about why AppleWorks has to have
QuickTime....(even though I use it for text only).

<The QuickTime installers are available individually for downloading from
Apple.  Just search a bit.>

Already picked one up this afternoon (4.1.2 free download).

<I really like QuickTime 5.0.3. I don't recall if it will run on 8.6,
but if it does, go for it. Much faster than QuickTime 4.>

Doesn't matter, I don't do video stuff on the computer: my sole interest
in QuickTime is so AW6 will run.

<Sure.  You've got them AppleTalk'd?  Just copy it over.>

I'll have them AppleTalk'd shortly. :-) Gotta set up that ole printer
port network.

<I don't think AFP will let you copy already open files, such as the
System and Finder. If that's the case, make copies by
option-dragging them to the desktop first, then push them to the
other Mac.>

Thanks for the instructions -- but what is AFP? I probably know the term,
but the acronym isn't ringing any bells at the moment. And what does the
option-drag operation do exactly to truly copy the System Folder (as
compared to just copying it over the AppleTalk network to my G3's hard
drive? (I just did the option drag, but it's be nice to know why.)

<Don't dump AppleWorks 5. It's much faster than 6. It also comes
with different fonts and clip art libraries, and more translators.
IOW, keep both versions around if you can.>

This is a totally new one on me!! Isn't it usually the common practice to
add features rather than subtract them when upgrading a software program?
