Truthfully, OS 7.6.1 was (and is) an excellent OS.

Subsequent OSes introduced some features (i.e., gadgets). But many of them
are available to 7.6.1 via add-on utilities.

At work, 8.5.1 proved a real system freezer on B&W and iMac G3s until we
upgraded to 8.6 (plus did the Apple-model hardware firmware updates). Then,
8.6 settled down.

I'll also offer this entirely unscientific, non-engineering and totally
un-provable observation: Many Macs (especially when in a herd, i.e.,
networked), when taken to a new OS, exhibit instability (neuroses) that only
time and TLC will resolve.

I'm confident this will put an end to OS debates. :-)
