>From what I know, no cd-rom should stop working if you upgrade your os. I had
the same problem with a SONY unit from a PowerCurve. I upgraded the driver for
CDrom, and it worked! And, with all the problems that SONY did to me in the
past, I am using now a SONY CDRW unit, and it's quite stable and works good.
You will need something like MacToast, a software for writing on CD's. Every
CDRW unit usually comes with a CD with drivers and a writing software. I think
Nero (www.ahead.de) has released a MAC version for his software (burning
ROM :) ) and if it has the stability that it has on Windoze, I assure you it's
good. I hadn't time to try it, but I worked a lot with the Windows version.
Very pleased.

My advice: buy a CDRW unit, but assure that it comes with drivers and a
burning software. Don't even think about spending money on tape drives or
other devices. Blank cd's are very easy to find, very cheap, and once
written, if you handle them with care, durable in time. Also, if you have very
big files, or big archives, Nero knows how to write them on multiple cd's(I am
talking here of files bigger than 700 MB - a CD-blank space).
