Ensure that CDrom toolkit is checked on in the control panel. Also, check that the CDROM is not terminated (remove jumper on appropriate posts at rear of drive). This sometimes is the case if the CDROM has been changed out from another machine. The PowerBase Phillips CDROM drives are known to be problematical.
