Hi, My PowerBase 180 turned five this month and it's still going strong. My only modifications have been to: increase (early on) the RAM to 112M; add (early on) a TurboTV screen capture device in one of the PCI slots; and install (more recently) an Apple CD drive.
I'm running OS 8.5.1, which is stable, but the low-end cutoff for a lot of software is now 8.6. I tried downloading and upgrading, twice, to the free 8.6 Apple offers, but both times it failed to "take." It's been so long I can't remember *how* it failed, but it was sufficiently scary for me to retreat quickly to 8.5.1, especially the second time. I'm still using only the original 1.2GB hard drive for everything. I try to keep between 300 and 400 MB free. Running Norton 6.0 periodically indicates only moderate fragmentation and only minor problems--always correctable. Does anybody have suggestions regarding why I'm having trouble upgrading from 8.5.1. to 8.6?
