This sounds odd. Especially for a Mac/Mac Clone.
I would suggest going on the web and finding the technical manuals for the
drives and read them. Sometimes a drive has
a particular quirk which is an easy fix. I keep a binder with all the technical
info on all the stuff I've crammed into my PTP
handy for quick reference when something crashes.
