What you have is commonly known as the 'click of death'.  It is 
sometimes thought of as a virus, but it is a physical defect that can 
SPREAD TO ALL DRIVES THAT YOU INSERT AN afflicted disc with.  This 
will physically damage good drives making them damage good discs. 
Its like a virus for its spreading, but it is not software related.
