Apple did a USB block if I remember, did built-in Firewire as a
requirement too. Think there were a couple others as well. XPostFacto
has gotten around every one of the blocks so far. Apple put in the
blocks so that some clueless person didn't install OS X on a 9600 or
something, then call Apple for support when it didn't work right. It
runs fairly good on most of the PCI PowerMacs, despite a few
quirks(mostly minor at this stage) if you throw in a G3 or G4. Apple
just didn't want to support 8 year old machines.

But yes, the used G3s are getting pretty reasonable these days.
Never mind the G3's...the G4's are fast reaching rock bottom (hold out
for the 133 bus speed units), and g4 upgrades for PCC PowerWaves and
PowerTowerPro's are easily affordable for OSX users, although I
believe that Panther is not usable on mobo's that don't have native
USB...anyone know for sure ?
