After XLR8 went out of business a couple years back Daystar picked up
their products and has been selling the upgrades since then, plus
various other things. They have G3 and G4 upgrades already put together
for older PowerMacs, or you can get just a Carrier ZIF card and put
another ZIF of your choosing in it. Their site is still www.xlr8.com
You can also check the Powerlogix( www.powerlogix.com ) site for other
options there. Thus far their best is a 1GHz G3 card that can beat the
Sonnet 800MHz on just about everything non-Altivec, and can match it
for a couple of the Altivec-enhanced functions.
MacGurus( www.macgurus.com ) and Other World Computing(
eshop.macsales.com ) should both have XLR8 upgrades for sale. OWC also
has a few Powerlogix upgrades offered as well. All these upgrades are
around the $200 range, or less, at this point. You can also purchase
direct from the XLR8/Daystar or Powerlogix website.

Hi Alan,
Do you know a good website where Powerlogix and XLR8
powerboards can be had? Just curious now what I can do
to pep mine up a bit more. Thanks!

Sonnet lists all the PCI Power Computing clones as

Actually, there is a fairly rare Power Tower Pro
motherboard revision
which does not work with Sonnet's G4 upgrades. The
model number on the
board is PCC 5000-141-01, and is most commonly found
in the PTP 250
systems. The PTP boards underwent some redesign
near the end of the
clone era in preparation for shipping with
G3s(though full G3 systems
never made it out before Apple axed the whole clone
program). Note that
Sonnet is the only one who seems to have issues with
this. XLR8 solved
the problem in an early revision of their Carrier
years ago, and I
believe Powerlogix did as well. Sonnet was/is just
too lazy to fix the
problem.

Check your Motherboard part number against Sonnets
Motherboard list.
