The EDO DIMM smoked, not the 7200. It was in a bunch of RAM strips I had and I didn't notice it was an EDO. Didn't hurt the 7200 and I configured it with OS 7.6 and several games. Then gave it to my granddaughter. I'm not a gamer.

Yes,never mixiEDO and FPM. I smoked one in an apple 7200
 one time.

That's not a symptom of mixing the RAM types. EDO RAM smokes 7200s regardless of any other RAM installed. There were dire warnings from Apple about this back when the 7200 was a shipping machine.

On Power Computing Catalyst based machines, EDO RAM should not smoke the machine, but will prevent it from booting. At least, that's what a PCC employee bragged. They were very proud that they designed a modification to avoid catastrophic failure from EDO RAM, and got it down to simple complete failure to boot.

I have not tested either configuration, personally.

On a complete aside, interestingly, the Apple Hardware Developer Note for the 7200 claims that it supports 256 MB DIMMs. This would imply (but not guarantee) that the Catalyst based PCC machines should as well. Too bad no one ever built any 256 MB FPM (or EDO) 5V DIMMs.
