That's what I've been saying for close to a year now myself, once I realized it. When the G5 was released, that was pretty much the big hit. The price of everything beige went through the floor and even the used G4 market sank to some degree.

If you just want to be productive for a job or have mission-critical work, it simply isn't cost-effective (or time-effective) to upgrade older systems if you need OS X or higher-speed processors. If you plan to stick to OS 9, or even OS X but only need it for web browsing, watching an occasional DVD, things like that then getting some modest upgrades is still worthwhile. Also, if you have heavy investments in one of the six slot models, then it can be worth trying to upgrade as well since there's a lot you can do with that still as a base.

With what the upgrades in my Power Tower Pro cost, I could have gotten a Quicksilver of MDD G4 by now. When I started 4 years ago these older systems still had a lot of life left in them. Now I just do it to see how far these old systems can be pushed. I like a challenge and it's kind of fun, especially when these systems surprise you. And I have learned a lot about computers in general.

I love my PowerCenter 132... I've owned it since 1995.

But when you can buy a Blue and White G3 for under $100.00 (www.wegenermedia.com), putting ANY money into a Power Computing machine to upgrade it to run MacOS X, just makes no sense....

It's ok if anyone wants to do it...

But, I wouldn't want the tail to wag the dog...

I know a guy that put a Color Videro Adapter, A Daisy Wheel Printer, Modem and Disk Drives on a Timex/Sinclair 1000.

It cost him more than buying a PC at the time...

That was ONE COSTLY PUPPY....
