The local MUG donation group here has decided a year ago they won't accept anything less than 100MHz PPC's anymore. It's not as bad as the OSX requirement but is kinda missing the whole idea of donating. I have given away 62/6300 Macs to people who are grateful to have a computer. The guy who runs his own donation program here in town donates a lot of compact Macs with printers for kids to do homework on. I actually met him through the Swaplist and he had basically started his own program because the MUG was getting picky about what they want to donate and he has piles of Classics, etc.... I have to commend Bryan on what he's doing. Things get even better in the peecee world........ There is an "Official Recycling Drop off" here in town for computers and related items. It's a private electronics business. Well business is not the best way to describe it, it's more like an electronics junk store. The guy that runs it is an old Ham radio guy who also sold satellite dishes when they got popular back in the 80's. So now he's got a sign up at the drop-off point declaring "no junk monitors" because he sells them in his store for $20-50.00, and advertises them in the local paper. Maybe I'm confused but I thought he is supposed to take all computer equipment, then it's picked up and transferred to the landfill. Now he has another sign that states he wants a dollar for anything at the drop-off. The old sign was "ask before taking". He's a crusty greedy old fart who hates Macs so I wait until he's gone home at night, or go there on Sunday and pilfer through what people have dropped who are thinking it's going to the right place. Every time I go there he has a dumpster full of stuff he is throwing away because he can't sell it. And to make things worse the landfill won't let anyone go through the stuff either. The "recycling" effort is a joke ! He's trying to make money on it and nobody can "re-use" any of it unless they buy it from him. The landfill won't let anyone take any of the stuff. I told the old fart if he gets any Mac stuff that I'll pick it up once a week since he never has any in the store for sale. Well, once he had an 8100 for $25.00. I laughed ! To make a long story short he never saved any Mac stuff for me and he knows I'm not gonna sell the stuff. Maybe the problem is because I told him I would find homes for the Macs and do it for free. He's worse than Goodwill.... and to make matters even worse he has signs in his store and his website states that he runs a "Christian" business. I won't even get started on "Christian businesses" and those who claim to be Christian to look good to customers. I've been in his store 50 times and have never seen one "Christian" act from this guy. Well......No offence to any Christians out there but what he does IS very Christian-like in my eyes. Being that he and his business are hypocritical and greedy. It's people like that that give Christians a bad name. So back to the PowerComputing topic..... Anybody got any spare PowerComputing parts they are thinking of getting rid of let me know and I'll at least pay shipping on it if it's not too expensive. I'm trying to keep my Mac pile limited to PowerComputing clones and related items. -- Ron http://krowmagnum.4mg.com/ -- Power Computing is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... 123Inkjets.com <http://lowendmac.com/ad/123inkjets.html> Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> Power Computing list info: <http://lowendmac.com/power/list.html> --> AOL users, remove "mailto:" Send list messages to: <mailto:powercomputing@mail.maclaunch.com> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> List archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/powercomputing%40mail.maclaunch.com/> iPod Accessories for Less at 1-800-iPOD.COM Fast Delivery, Low Price, Good Deal www.1800ipod.com
