Well, they are both used, but thanks for the pointer that this file is most likely the relevant one for pref settings. I couldn't find anything in clear text regarding spell checking or the app I choosed, in any of the resources though. If you open "/Library/Preferences/com.ctmdev.PowerMail.plist" in an editor you'll find various setting for toolbars, navigation services and similar. Good to know if anyone get problems with these.
