Well, I also had Spell Catcher installed. I tried uninstalling it using the application provided by the developer, but it didn't remove all the bits and pieces. I tried doing it manually but still had problems. Maybe I was dreaming it, but no matter how many times I dragged the parts to the trash, they seemed to re-materialize.
I, like you, ended up reinstalling the entire OS, not once, not twice, but three times. The last 5 days were eaten up by this process. I'm up and running now, all seems to be stable for the last 24 hours. I also have no intention of messing with any spell checkers.
