>the argument that PM might not be right for me if i want to use html is a >bit like saying "you're either for us or against us!" first off, i'm not >convinced i want to be a member of that 'club'. it's an email client, not >a way of life. it either suits my needs or it doesn't. since this >inability to respond to html emails is a 'feature', that's a problem area >for me. i can either find another email client, or i can ask politely for >this feature to be implemented. > Plenty of people have asked, but PowerMail is for folks who don't want HTML mail and need only the rudimentary form of reading it or read it in a web browser where HTML is supposed to be read. There are plenty of email clients that do HTML if that is something you need. It's not a "for us or against us" thing. It's a "this is just the way it is and there are others out there that do what you want" thing. We're not proselytizing PowerMail as the perfect end-all be-all mail client. It does the job for us and, really, our feelings aren't hurt if it doesn't work out for your needs. (CTM are the ones to worry about marketing, features, and trying to get your sale. :) ) >there's nothing sacred about text-only emails. they're fine normally, and >i use emails that way pretty regularly. but haven't you ever wanted to >underline a word? or perhaps make it bold? oh come on, i know you have! No. >and _hey_look_i'm_underlining! looks a bit ugly. and occasionally i'm >sent emails where i'm supposed to edit the text into something more >coherent, and i do that by assigning my changes a color. the color red! >(the text-only crowd is no squirming uncontrollably) > Sounds ugly to me. You can't offset your changes with dashes? Or maybe use a program like Acrobat or a word processor that keeps track of edits better? I don't need all that in my email. I just want to write letters to folks and read what they have to say. And you really can say it without a bunch of bold, underlined, colored text. (Besides the fact that most email clients color text according to the level of quoted material, so you're likely conflicting with that and confusing folks.) >wanting to underline a word in email doesn't mean you're a moron, or a >spammer, or some newbie/fashionista. it's just practical. and given the >competition in email clients, including Apple Mail which is free, having >to jump through hoops to reply to an html email is bad news. > What hoop? I don't want HTML mail, either to read or to send. So I use PowerMail, which allows me to read the attached HTML mail by simply dragging it to a web browser if I wish (or clicking the little button at the bottom of the mail. If that's a hoop, I'd hate to see what real work is. >that said, i shall try this script and see if it's a sufficiently small >'hoop' for my purposes. > Applescripts aren't hoops. Applescript is extended capability. :) Mail client choices are pretty specific to each individual. What's good for one may not be good for the next, and I'm just glad we have all the choices we do have on the Mac platform. -- Michael Lewis Off Balance Productions [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.offbalance.com
