On Sat, Oct 25, 2003, A-NO-NE Music [EMAIL PROTECTED], invoked powers
within the internet realm, to proclaim ...

>the space this quick. 40GB drive is not enough!

I also have a 40 Gig on my TiBook. I've only had my Ti since February but
started to get cramped for disk space in July. I do have a 40 Gig
external FW drive that is designated for games. I think it's less than
half full. I'd shuffle stuff over to that drive, but then I'd have to
hook the drive up more frequently than I want - I already have enough
cords to get tangled up in.

My hard drive was caused by an addictive assimilation of the iTunes Music
Store by my evil twin. If my hard drive had been bigger, I'm sure I would
have spent much more ... I mean, my twin would have spent more. ;-)

BTW. What percentage of the hard drive should be left free for disk
operations with OS X? Anyone know? Is some of the slack taken up by
caching to RAM? It was once speculated that Emailer and other databases
might be more prone to corruption if the free hard drive space was too
fragmented - especially when doing something like compacting, rebuilding
and indexing. I don't recall anything definitive. I also don't recall
hearing whether OS X is better at working around or through tight hard
drive space and fragmentation. I don't know if this question would be too
technical for this list, but thought I'd ask in case it's something I'd
need to be aware of before compacting in PM.
