I don't think a low level rebuild takes a long time if there are no
serious problems.  My (well performing) database  (30,000+ msg, 200 Mb)
takes about a minute on my cube G4/450 MHz.
It's the rebuilding the indexes that soup up most of the time.
So your 2 mins on your database could be all right.
