Hello Cyberdog's search feature is based on the same search V-Twin technology as Powermail. However, while Powermail is a top notch program with many excellent features, I've noticed it is lacking some of the search features which Cyberdog supports. Specifically, Cyberdog allows one to control the date range searched during find by content searches. i.e.- Search for words in messages received: after/on/before a certain date.
In addition, one is allowed to restrict the search to specific fields. i.e.- Entire message/"any header field"/To/from/subject/CC. This makes it a lot easier to find what you're looking for. As, far as relevancy of the found items is concerned I haven't noticed a problem with Cyberdog not returning items which contained the desired words. Also, I can't recall Cyberdog returning items which *didn't* have *any* of the words which were indicated in a search. From what I understand, part of the reason why Powermail may have "issues" with it's search engine is that Apple doesn't make it's search engine available to outside developers in Mac OS X. So, it makes it very difficult for a developer to make enhancements. If that is the case and Apple is not going to be more forthcoming on this issue. Then perhaps, the developers need to create their own indexing and searching technology which offers relevancy ranking features and rivals the unsurpassed speed of Apple's V-Twin. There are no other mail programs that I'm aware of which use the V-twin technology or have anything like it's speed in searching large databases (which I find crucial). So, the alternatives aren't any better for my needs. As it stands, Cyberdog 2.0 is unsurpassed in it's Sherlock like search features despite it's age. This is crucial to me as I have a large archive of mailing digests which I keep on hand for reference in addition to my regular business correspondence. Cyberdog's advanced search features make a major difference in my ability to look up & find relevant material in a timely manner. While some others may find that Powermail meets their needs I can't justify changing over to Powermail as my email program until the issues with it's search engine are resolved. Cyberdog gets the job done well for my purposes and the feature set of the alternatives aren't enough to incline me to change. Just my opinion on the issue- other opinions may vary, Anthony __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
