I haven't had this find problem, but have you (either of you) tried
creating a new user environment? If that works, I'd export all the old
email and import it carefully into the new environment. I'm thinking
there must be some kind of corruption in your PM database or search index.

I'll keep my eyes on what's happening to PM when I'm performing a find.
I export my messages to FileMaker Pro,  although not as frequently as I
once did because I tend to delete as much as possible these days to keep
PowerMail lean. PM is noticeably slower to me since I upgraded recently
to Tiger, so I plan to do the PM optimization and exports to FM more
frequently.
