I haven't tried the identify spam button, but, yes, this just recently began for me,too. I think it began after the most recent update. I am on a PPC Mac using OS X 10.4.11. It's an annoyance, but I hadn't gotten around to asking about it myself yet. At least now I know it isn't just me.
