Hi Carlette,

At GGNS we use a computer file of recorded plant noise. We use our WBC room
and play it back over amplified speakers. We keep a decibel meter available to
check that the level is at least 90 Db. Usually the door to the room is closed
and it is very low key during our normal office routine.

Subject: Powernet: EPD Alarm Hearing Check

Progress Energy requests a response to the following:

* At the time of TLD issuance, when performing the audible hearing
check for EPD alarms, do you perform the check in an area where background
noise is generated at a decibel level that would generally be encountered in
the field?

* If yes, then how is that noise level achieved in a Dosimetry office
environment?

Any information on your process would be most appreciated.

Thank you for your time
