We use a Tennelec APC II Gas Flow Proportional Counter. We have a limit of
500,000 dpm/100cm2 beta-gamma. Above 500,000 dpm/100 cm2 we would instruct the
technician to halve or quarter the smear to get activity below the limit.

Duke Energy request to following information:

What do you use to count smears for alpha/ beta activity? Canberra iSolo,
Ludlum 3030P, other?

Do you have a limit on the activity (dpm) that can be counted using a smear
counter?

And if you have a limit on activity, what is the limit and how do you count
smears above the activity limit (beta) for alpha?
