Direct I/O testing can be done using existing testcase now. "test/long/org/apache/cassandra/db/commitlog/CommitLogStressTest.java" modified and following table is test result for "test/long/org/apache/cassandra/db/commitlog/PeriodicCommitLogStressTest.java" testcase.
