Absolutely, as Julian says, the Gepe sprays seem to work very well - I have
seen globbing with other brands; the Gepe's you just spray on one medium
heavy coat, and allow to dry. Then follow with another heavy coat (so it
looks extremely shiny wet and smooth)... then allow to dry fully. In this
way, I would not (personally) feel the need to use a glossy paper to start
with... but rely on a fine art matte paper to provide the base, and the
spray to provide the shine and some extra protection from the elements.

It's definitely pigment rub-off though on glossy papers ... not dye :)
