Hi everyone I have subscribed to the Photoshop Discussion List for some time, a week ago Martin Evening posted a reply on that list I followed the link he kindly included and ended up here! I must apologise for accidentally posting a comment last night - I thought it was going to the Photoshop list until a copy came back to me from this list. Sorry
I am a professional photographer; most of my work is commercial - products, buildings, catalogues, reports etc. etc.. I also photograph about 20 weddings a year for a specialist wedding photographer nearby and do bits of 'rescuing' and restoring for a small number of social photographers. Based in Worthing, have been self employed for 12 years and a PC user for most of that time. Having bought the PC for word processing and accounts I soon discovered the possibilities and started to be sucked into digital imaging. My first commercial digital job was handled in Windows 3.0's Paint program and output as a Postscript file. After moving on to Picture Publisher I discovered Photoshop 2.5 for the PC. I probably should have started with a Mac because over the years dealing with printers for whom a Mac with Quark is the ONLY possible way to work has caused me quite a few headaches. I do some photography based design producing leaflets and catalogues. This year I have used my Sinar for just two jobs, most of my work has been captured using a Fuji S1 a camera that has surprised me many times particularly in my small studio when tethered to the PC. This week I have been trying out a Fuji S2, this camera uses the IEEE1394 'firewire' connection and my laptop (Toshiba Satellite) only has USB so I had to buy (just over 30+vat) a PCMCIA/firewire card. Just a thought reading Quentin Harriott's comments about the cut down firewire on some laptops - I am 99% certain that the card is a fully specified IEEE1394. I must say this requirement of an introduction is a good one. I have spent a good hour today reflecting on my career to date, it would bore you all to tears. To those who have read this far thanks, I look forward to learning even more here than I have on the Photoshop list and I hope contributing constructively.
