Michael and Shanghara
many thanks for your comments, on and off-list
please, can I just make it clear that my monitor is _not_ displaying a
bluish cast(!) and is (hopefully!) good for while yet - encouragingly,
so far, the image that prints out looks very close to the image on
screen and very close to the original transparency, with no obvious
colour casts
the 'coldness' or rather 'coolness' seen on screen was in the same file
with embedded profile opened into Photoshop Adobe RGB but with one copy
converted and the other not converted - to me the colours of the
unconverted one looked closer to original transparency, the converted
one had a 'cooler' (but not bluish) look - fairly subtle but observable
difference
have noticed that embedding profile with the scanner software is
optional anyway (not sure how that box got ticked!...) and the scanner
help file.... well, doesn't really help enough - tried embedding
'Generic Monitor AdobeRGB1998 WP6500 Gamma2.2' which matches my PS5 RGB
set-up exactly, but still got a profile mismatch warning and
convert/don't convert, which is a bit confusing - as is most of this
colour management stuff.... :-( - maybe I should not embed any
profile via scanner at all?

- is this the general consensus? I seem to be getting different advice
from different experts..... even the 'Bible' (Photoshop 6 - Martin
Evening) only mentions it once but doesn't say whether it should be
ticked or not ticked.....

Ole no Moire (CMYK) testpic looks good, all colour grades show, but do
notice that on 50% grey block the eyedropper reading is 148-148-148 RGB,
43-32-31-10 CMYK - is this right? Also notice Ole is rather lacklustre
with 'Enable Monitor Compensation' not ticked.... hmmm, I think you're
right Shanghara
as ever, any help appreciated - but now, if you'll forgive me, I need to
lie down again for a little while..... ;-}
