I'm on your side, Richard. I use a Targus USB mini mouse on the PC laptop and it's brilliant - it accelerates rapidly with a quick movement but is perfectly controllable for slow movements. Put it on the PowerBook and I can brew 20 cups of Chinese tea waiting for it to move 15.2 inches - dread to think what a 22 inch screen is like - could go and pick the tea myself as well! So you asked a question I've wondered about for ages. Any answers folks?
