>>Restart the computer and hold down COMMAND>S on start-up.<<

Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd share an experience I've had with the start up modes on my
mac (G4 Cube). Recently I have not been able to start up using either
Command-S (single-user mode) or Command-V (verbose mode). I've always been
able to use these methods in the past but recently they've ceased to work.
After much experimentation I tracked it down to the Open Firmware password
protection that I put on the machine. With this enabled I also can't use
Command-C to start up from a CD. Now you have to hold the Option key when
starting up, and choose the loaded CD from the boot up screen (after
entering your Open Firmware password). However, I can only get Command-S and
Command-V to work if I disable Open Firmware password protection.

Of course now that I've worked it out it's patently obvious. Sometimes the
obvious is,well, too obvious!

Anyway I thought this may be of use to people out there, as it's kind of
related to the thread.

Cheers

Douglas
