First of all, it's ppi, not dpi. Pixels per inch. Does the image file have the same pixel dimensions as you shot it? The pixels per inch means nothing until opening the image in Photoshop and saving. Cameras don't capture pixels per inch, only pixels.

I'm using XP for an operating system and an IBM microdrive with card reader.
When i open the cards contents using the Canon EOS 1D software and choose to
'save file' the images are always saved at 72 dpi. But if i choose to
'transfer file' into Photoshop(6), they are transferred at 300 dpi. I much
prefer the 'save file' option and find it a lot quicker, so this is the way
i'd like to work.
