Yes it does. If i resample the image to 300 ppi in Photoshop the file size remains the same(which is approx 11.7mb on an EOS 1D.) >The pixels per inch means nothing until opening the image in Photoshop and saving. Cameras don't capture pixels per inch, only pixels. so yes, the camera is capturing the image with the correct file size, it's just that when i save them onto my harddrive the files are being saved at 72ppi and not 300 ppi as i would like. The file size is the correct size, just set at the wrong ppi, which for some of my clients is not ideal. I then have to convert the lot in photoshop. More work........ I never had this problem when i was working with Windows Millenium, but since i have changed OS and reinstalled the relevant programs (photoshop and Canon's RAW converter), i can't seem to rectify the situation.
