I should mention that the 72 pixels per inch in Photoshop 6 is because
Photoshop was ignoring the EXIF data and reading monitor resolution. And,
if you examine the physical dimensions in inches of the 72 ppi file, it's
exactly the same as the 300 ppi file. For example, look at the same out of
camera Jpeg opened in Photoshop 6 and Photoshop 7.
Photoshop 6:
72 pixels per inch
35.5 x 24.6 inches
Photoshop 7:
300 pixels per inch
8.5 x 6.4 inches
They are both identical files if you uncheck Resample Image and change the
pixels per inch for one to match the other. That begins to help us
understand what is happening.
