If you're copying the image to the hard drive, it's not an issue. Just open them in Photoshop and resize. The only reason you're seeing the difference in ppi is that the software is reading the EXIF data, not analyzing the picture itself. It's not a problem if you ignore it. I know you hate that answer... Camera manufacturer's like to think their cameras capture images at 300 pixels per inch so they build it into the EXIF data. All it does is confuse people. If I open an image file shot three years ago in both Photoshop 6 and Photoshop 7, and resize to 300 pixels per inch, the two files are still identical. Even though one version of Photoshop says it was 72 ppi and the other says it's 300 ppi.

My work flow consists of opening the original file. Saving As a PSD. Doing my editing and SAVING the resulting file as my "working original". That's the most important file (short of archive the out of camera original Jpegs). If I need it for the web or for print, that's where I resize based on those requirements. But I archive that "working original" and just resize as needed. Whether it's in Photoshop 6 or Photoshop 7, it's still the exact same file. Just that one reads the EXIF data and the other doesn't.

so yes, the camera is capturing the image with the correct file size, it's
just that when i save them onto my harddrive the files are being saved at
72ppi and not 300 ppi as i would like. The file size is the correct size,
just set at the wrong ppi, which for some of my clients is not ideal. I then
have to convert the lot in photoshop. More work........

I never had this problem when i was working with Windows Millenium, but
since i have changed OS and reinstalled the relevant programs (photoshop and
Canon's RAW converter), i can't seem to rectify the situation.
