Well, it seems I started this interesting and useful thread under
false pretences: when I arrived at the studio I found it lit with
some sort of unidentifiable (to me) studio lights bounced off a very
high ceiling. No fluorescent tubes in sight. Nevertheless I went
ahead as planned, shooting on colour neg (NPH) and fairly confident,
after reading the replies on this list, that I could correct any
colour cast in Photoshop.
I am very happy with the results. The pictures turned out to have a
rather pleasing warm tone which needs virtually no correction.
Working in this way, shooting on colour neg in available light and
sorting out possible colour casts in PS, is a welcome return to the
flexibility of fly-on-the-wall B&W reportage. Thanks to all those who
replied to my original posting.
