Graeme, I have seen this before on a PII... Does your bulb have a metal sleeve around it? If so... you will find that the problem is the incorrect alignment of the metal reflector in the bulb holder. You can correct it by gentle nudging the metal reflector one way or the other. In the correct position, the lines you are complaining of will disappear.
