Hi Mike,

Without being there, it's difficult to know what you're doing wrong. I
suspect you are on a none type layer when you try and select a word of
previously inserted type. Try selecting the type layer in the layers palette
_before_ you insert the cursor in a word to try and select it.

Tip - if you hit Cmd+H before you select type, you will not see the
highlight and be in a better position to judge the changes to size or font
type.

There is no bug that I am aware of. I suspect it's just a case of getting
used to the type tool.

That's because the fonts you used in OS X are not available in OS 9x so
anytime you try to change type that doesn't have corresponding fonts
available to PS, it renders the fonts. You will have to copy your Gill font
family from the OS X fonts folder into the OS 9x fonts folder. If you use
something like ATM in OS 9x to handle your fonts, then you will have to tell
it to load the Gill family from the OS X folder so that Photoshop can have
access to the exact font you used in OS X.

It doesn't sound as if the two families are by the same company. If the font
family is complete in OS 9x, I would be tempted to copy that into the OS X
fonts folder(s). I would then open the PSD file again in OS X or OS 9x and
then choose the Gill font again. Now when you hop between OS's, all should
be well.
