This is a good inexpensive rip that can give you decent press previews.

Sometimes I've seen files with text boxes that print erroneously yet print
on any rip. IF it's for occasional Postcript  printing though, Gimp print
would probably fix it by printing through CUPS. Some fonts print cleaner
with a rip (as expected) yet for photo printing the rgb driver is usually
good enough.
