I have one of the new Epson 3200 scanners, and have just upgraded from the 2450.
Its worth the extra cost for speed reasons alone. About three times faster I think. But... certainly on 35mm film I can perceive no difference in resolution whatsoever (I am scanning Horizon panoramic negs which are too wide to fit in my Coolscan). On 5x4 there appears to be better results than I was getting before, definitely slightly better DMax. One difference is that the light source appears to have some kind of shinier reflective coating, maybe this helps with seeing through denser film areas. The advertised "dust and scratch removal" is actually a software feature of Silverfast SE. I find this to be of no practical use as it is simply a software filter and imposes an impossibly slow workflow. More of an amateur rather than a professional feature. Would be great if it was a photoshop filter. Overall, its mainly better for the speed. Possibly better contrast/colour representation. Epson scanning software is also improved. All in all, very good for the money... but an incremental improvement. As with my 2450 it has dust under the glass, some large enough to require retouching. Epson support is good though and they are going to replace it with another unit.
