I happened to be reading a copy of the fine magazine "The Garden" as one does, and found a reference to a CD eating Fungus. Apparently a yeast, 'Geotrichum candicum' has been found to eat holes in compact discs and destroy data stored on them! This was discovered by Spanish scientists when a botanist had returned from Belize with discoloured discs. They found this fungus thrives in hot humid conditions and the polycarbonate base and aluminium coating of the cd were badly affected (I've now taken my archive out of the airing cupboard!) Like film, Cd's will have problems yet to be discovered!
