Possibly as much to do with the pro as anything. Currently the spec for 6 sheet posters requires a film size of 381mm x 254mm whereas for 48 sheet it's 305mm x 610mm, which is about twice the area.

However 48 sheets has an screen of 48 or 120, whereas 6 sheets is 60 or 150 so this does tend to equalise them a bit and, of course a D1X file has more usable area in the 48 sheets format (2:1)
