Have you all considered store files in EPS format encoded as Jpeg ? Some years ago, when CDs were not as cheap as they are now, I used to save all my files as EPS-encoding Jpeg, they become even smaller than Jpegs. This is the format I use when I need to send via e-mail, too (as long as the other side knows how to decompress, of course).
